Keep an eye on Chris Brooks at WR for the Huskers. The QB-Receiver play in the Spring game was one of the few things I took special note of during the Spring game. He has great hands and always seemed to be open, which shows good fundamental route running (and hopefully not a lacking secondary on our part). I think he and hopefully Niles Paul will step up and be solid receivers, but I can see Niles as more useful utilized on screen passes to get him in to a more open field and allow him to use his agility to get around defenders. At RB, the combo of Castille-Helu should be effective. By mixing in strong breakthrough running (castille) and acceleration around the outside (Helu), it just gives defenders more to worry about, which benefits all aspects of the offense.
Zac Lee should start. Green should Redshirt and train more to understand our team, and be ready to move us to a more mobile QB position, I think it is clear that is why we brought in a player like him.
NFL Draft- Don’t forget the Patriots. The star first-round players are definitely exciting, but the Patriots traded picks when they disliked who was on the board and got more picks. They got a lot of talented players. Even though they were not first round celebrities, good teams (especially New England) use their scouts to get underrated players. Tom Brady went in the 6th round. Matt Cassel in the 7th. Don’t be too quick to give the awards to teams with the flashy first rounders. Lets wait and see how they can develop them into an NFL style game.
Good work this week, Jay’s comments were good, and I think the 5 in 5 is a good addition.
