New Audioadam Logos

Fun No Comments »

Audioadam.com has a face lift. Big thanks to Benjamin Rush at Radford University for the new primary and alternative logos.

The primary logo features an atom based shell. It signals that I base my ability to do Podcasts on a science, and I believe if you stand by your identity on the show that you will have listeners plugging in everyday to follow and support. In retrospect, much like protrons and neutrons.

The equalizer logo is eminent of me. I look at my show as sports talk radio that doesn’t stay inside the square equalizer box, but rather it sprouts out and separates itself from the normal and typical, monotonous radio shows. It stems from the a in Adam, the host of the show.

The Real Nebraska License Plate

Fun 1 Comment »

For almost a month now, the State of Nebraska has blown up over the issue of the 2011 License Plates. We as state inhabitants were thrown four bad designs to vote on, some of which looked liked a 3rd grader created. Today, we found out the winner from the contest, a plate featuring the state bird and state flower — the western meadowlark and goldenrod. I’ll be honest, we could have done 10x better.

What better explains our state than Nebraska Husker football? How come this wasn’t even considered? We go crazy every Saturday during football season. And when it’s not football season, we think about it until it is. Considering how high the concentration is on football right now, I thought I would stand by the few other million in this State and submit a REAL design. I call this the “Power of Red Plate.” Yeah we currently have the numbered Husker plate, but that’s an additional cost and a special plate. I’m talking permanent here. Think this would create a frenzy?

Game of Shadows

Fun No Comments »

I told you guys on Tuesday’s Podcast that I had been interested in reading “Game Of Shadows: Barry Bonds, Balco, and the Steroids Scandal that Rocked Professional Sports.” Later that night I checked out prices on eBay and thought I would pick it up. It was only $4.

I came home today and saw it arrived in the mail. I can’t wait to get into the book.

I was never a big fan of Bonds. Who really was? I can’t believe we as sports fans and media consumers let him destroy baseball records, even though we knew he was cheating all along. The more I think about that, the more I wish we could have changed those days and walked him even more.

I understand the book is a few years old, but maybe it’s better to read it now while Bonds is no longer in the game, as well as other athletes. The Boston Globe labels it, “A compelling portrait of conspiracy . . . . Fascinating.” It’s sad for baseball to have stories tarnish the game like this, but it also makes you appreciate the guys who came out and didn’t lie. It’s safe to say baseball is not as bad as it was in the 90s and early 2000s. But then again, a major player tested positive last week. At least new records aren’t being broken by the day.

I’ll give some feedback on my thoughts during and after I read. It’s not that thick of a book (332 pages), so it shouldn’t take me very long. Sports articles are about the only thing I touch. I should stay interested all along.

Grounds Crew In My Soul

Fun No Comments »

When you go to ballparks around the majors, a bright focal point is always the Green Grass. Sometimes, it’s even the angles, paths or logos cut into the surface that grab your attention.

These days, grounds crew to each team is a crucial job. They prepare the field pre and post game, and even in between innings. They are turned to in rain delays, in hopes to keep the field playable after storms pass. In some cases, they mean as much as team managers or personnel.

I’ve mowed for my parents ever since Day One. It’s a dragging job, and I’m glad I only have to mow just one yard, one time a week. When I first started, it was the same-ole same-ole, straight lines. I just wanted to be done as fast as possible. Occasionally, I brought the angles. In our yard, we’ve got several trees near in the middle, which allow for a great starting points. A few years ago, I took up the circle cut. Ever since then, it’s been my special ingredient.

Yeah, I’m not a big fan of mowing each week, but I do want the yard to look nice. Does this have any implication that I could be a future grounds crew? Naw, that’s not my inner calling. This is plenty enough work for now.

Every couple of weeks, I bring out the special circle cut. Im one of few on the block.

Streaking for the Cash

Fun No Comments »

This ESPN Streak for the Cash game is addicting. It’s probably my new favorite web site, ahead of Facebook. I’ve had a lot of success this month (.667 win %), and it’s making me look like a sports genius.

Streak for the Cash is a sports prop game, where you select matchups from the current day that might be like “Who will WIN this Matchup? or “How many TOTAL RUNS will be SCORED?” Some props are easy to pick a side on, while others are very difficult.

None the less, I’m currently sitting at a positive 7, and hoping to be at +8 by the end of the night. What really entices me to play this game is having a sports knowledge while doing research along the way. But more so than that is money. Before April, if you built the biggest streak in the country, you qualified for $1 million. Only one guy reached that milestone. Now the game rewards the top seven guys who put together the longest streaks by December with $10,000. Right now, the longest is +18. Essentially, I’m a third of the way there. And what would I do with $10,000 dollars guaranteed? Probably make the Huskers bowl game trip or just save for a future buy.

But for tonight, I feel most comfortable picking the Dallas Mavericks over the Houston Rockets, especially with the game being in Dallas. I’m putting trust in Dirk to have a big game and the ‘JET’ Jason Terry to hit some clutch buckets. I know it’s going to be a grinder. My gut instinct is the Mavs. Following that matchup, which is in ESPN-HD tonight at 7:00 p.m., I’m leaning towards the Portland Trailblazers over the Denver Nuggets. The two hottest teams in the NBA battle here, but the deciding factor is that the game is at the Rose Garden. If Portland can take down the Lakers at home, why not the No. 2 seed in the West with the Nuggets. Nuggets are proven at home, but not proven on the road. It might be a little risky with a possible +8 riding on them.

No doubt I’ll be glued to the Hi-Def set tonight with these games. Hopefully the ball bounces my way, and I’ll sit at +7 to start. Keep a tab on my ESPN profile for sure! And if you decide to play the game as well, let me know and I’ll get you in the group for fellow Kearney-ites.

Sunny with a High of 75!

It’s currently 79 degrees outside as I type this. Are you serious?? I just got off work, and came home with the windows down and sunroof up. Can’t complain to that. Today is one of those days that just makes me think of summer. It’s that one time of year that brings excitement to our lives. Who doesn’t like the freedom of no school, baseball games, cruising around, sleeping in, pulling all nighters, biking, grilling out, ice cream, cold drinks, wearing sandals, shorts, mowing the lawn, traveling, and going swimming? Blah blah, I could go on forever! But right now, I’m just going to envision taking part in those here soon. I know today is a sign of good things to come.

Thought I’d share with you the best (hands down) sideline reporter on ESPN. She’s definitely my favorite! Saw her at the College World Series over the summer in Omaha, and then she worked the sidelines at the Nebraska – Virginia Tech game in September. Not only is she smokin’, but she’s got a bomb of a job. Enjoy.
